ORGANIZATION OF POSTGRADUATE POLICE EDUCATION IN GREECE

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of issues of organization and provision of postgraduate police education in modern Greece. The activity of the Faculty of retraining and professional development of police officers is characterized, the purpose of which is to provide continuous retraining and professional development of police officers, to acquaint them with modern general and special issues and problems in the field of law enforcement activities for the full performance of their professional functions by police officers. It was found that the Faculty of Police Retraining and Professional Development consists of seven departments, namely: the Department of Retraining of Managers of the Greek Police; officer retraining department; department of retraining of the junior staff of the police; department of retraining of constables; department of retraining of cynologists, trainers of search dogs (neutralizers) of explosive devices; department of foreign languages; department of special police education. The peculiarities of the organization and implementation of retraining at the specified departments are characterized, in particular, the purpose of training, its terms and content are formulated. It was found that the content of the retraining is aimed at the development and improvement of such key competencies and social skills (soft skills), such as: communicative competence, decision-making skills, teamwork, creativity, flexibility, problem solving, etc. The advantages of the Faculty of retraining and advanced training of police officers are highlighted, which include the following: each department is designed to meet the needs of a specific category of specialists, taking into account modern requirements for their professional and personal qualities; involving in the educational process not only domestic scientists and practitioners, but also foreign colleagues in order to exchange valuable professional experience; availability of final exams, preparation and presentation of a small research paper with its further discussion; activities of the foreign language department to improve the foreign language communicative competence of police officers.
